As the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) finalises arrangement for the supplemental Immunisation activities (SIA) scheduled for 26th of October to 2nd of November 2024, the Acting Executive Secretary of FCT Primary Health Care Board Dr Ruqqaya Wamakko has charged health care workers in the Territory to ensure that every eligible child is immunised.
Dr Wamakko made the charge during town hall meeting with stakeholders on the supplemental immunisation activities. She stated that children who the targets for the immunisation and being leaders of tomorrow need to have their future secured and protected through adequate health care services and that vaccination protects them from childhood diseases.
The Acting Executive Secretary further charged health care workers to constantly update and review the FCT micro plan due to the unstable population status of the Territory, pointing out that massive immigration into FCT makes it difficult to rely on a particular micro plan, adding that different settlements are emerging rapidly in the FCT.
FCT being the country’s capital Dr Wamakko further stated should be a reference point on immunisation in the country and that the Territory, should as a matter urgency meet up with her target coverage during the campaign
At the town hall meeting, stakeholders, which comprised of UNICEF, WHO NGOs and Development partners were sensitised on the supplemental immunisation activities, identify their roles and responsibilities, and secure the commitment and support of stakeholders towards the success of the campaign.
During the scheduled immunisation activities, children 9-59 months will receive measles vaccine, children 0-59 months will be administered oral polio Vaccine (OPV) while children of 0-23 months will receive the Routine Immunisation (RI). The Human papilloma Vaccine (HPV) will be given to girls of 9-14 years to prevent cervical cancer and women of 15-45 years the Tetanus Diphteria (TD) vaccine.
These services are given free of charge at all government health facilities in the FCT.
